Outdoor recreation and nearby resorts define leisure around Middletown. Clear Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake wholly within California, lies a short drive north and offers boating, fishing, and lakeside recreation. Mount St. Helena rises to the south, with trails and sweeping views across Napa and Lake counties. Harbin Hot Springs, a long-established retreat set among the hills, draws visitors to the area's geothermal waters. To the south, Calistoga provides spas, mud baths, and wineries. The combination of lake, mountain, and hot springs gives Middletown outsized access to Northern California's recreational landscape.
